Lumix DC-GH5II

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5II User Manual - The second generation of Lumix GH5 is officially announced. The successor to the Lumix GH5, which launched on the market in 2017, brings quite a number of feature updates. However, one thing that is interesting is that the selling price is now also cheaper.

The design of the two is still similar. The specifications of the Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5II also retain the 20.3 megapixel Micro Four Third (MFT) sensor. The difference is, the sensor gets an update with the addition of an AR (Anti Reflective) layer. According to Panasonic, the coating is useful for minimizing the effects of blur and light reflections, even in conditions where the subject is very bright or backlit.

The Venus Engine processor it carries is also updated. As a result, the Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5II offers better video recording capabilities than the first generation. The GH5II now supports DCI or 4K UHD 10-bit 4:2:0 video recording at up to 60p directly to the camera. No need to use additional external recorder like GH5.

Panasonic also added support for variable frame rate recording (VFR) video recording at C4K/4K 60fps, Anamorphic at 50fps and at Full HD 180fps resolution. The V-Log option is immediately available with the CineLike D2 option with priority on dynamic range and Cinelike V2 with priority on contrast. Previously, GH5 users had to spend around US$100 to enjoy the V-Log feature. In addition, the MonochromeS and L.ClassicNeo profiles now also support Anamorphic video recording.

Another update then propagated in the stabilizer feature. The stabilizer feature of the GH5II has been enhanced with the same stabilization capability as the Lumix G9 which is up to 6.5 stops. The stabilizer feature also supports the Dual IS 2 feature for more optimal stabilization capabilities when paired with a lens that has been equipped with a stabilizer feature.

Responding to the trend of live broadcasting and video conferencing, the Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5II can now support live broadcasts via smartphones and the Lumix Sync App. So, more practical without the need to use a PC. In addition, to recharge the battery, the GH5II also supports charging the battery via the USB port.

The GH5II will be available on the market in July 2021 for US$1699 for the body only. The kit package with 12-60mm F2.8-4 lens costs US$2299.
